Program

Day 1 Cosenza and the Donnici’s wines
Our journey starts from Cosenza, the city of Frederick II and the myth of King
Alaric, and from the discovery of the Savuto wines. A walk to the Bilotti
Open Air Museum (Mab) is the best way to open our day. Afterwards we
will taste the wines in a local wine cellar, situated on the hills that crown the
Bruzia capital, whose vineyards extend over 6,5 hectares of vineyards,
planted with vines such as Magliocco, Greco Nero, Aglianico, Merlot,
Barbera.

Day 2 The products of Savuto
We have the opportunity to continue the discovery of Cosenza, in particular
of the Castello Svevo, and the old town, one of the largest in
southern Italy, embellished by the presence of the Duomo, and the Diocesan
Museum where is the Stauroteca, a famous reliquary donated to the City by
Frederick II. On the confluence of the rivers Crati and Busento there is the
commemorative statue of Alarico I, in the place, according to the legend,
where the king was buried together with his treasure in 410. The Arnone
palace is home to the National Gallery, is praised by the presence of the
painting of the "caravaggist" Mattia Preti. In the afternoon we will taste
Savuto wines in a company of Rogliano whose native nature of the vineyards
gives the wines the distinctive character, a bit spicy that reminiscent of
ancient flavors. All native varieties of vines are: Arvino, Greco nero, Nerello
cappuccio, Magliocco canino, Malvasia bianca and Pecorello.

Day 3 Rende and its wines
The last oenological stage of our route will be Rende, which enjoys a
wonderful old town. We will be able to visit also the Civic Museum, where
some works of the "caravaggist" Mattia Preti are exhibited. Later we will visit
a cellar near the old town, in whose vineyards are cultivated predominantly
three varieties of native vines: Magliocco, Greco nero e Greco bianco. Our
tour ends with the tasting of their wines.
